Let's talk brakes
Gentlemen, I need your ideas. My lift is in, my tires are ordered. I want to upgrade the brakes on my 2k xj. Anyone have any ideas they can offer up on what's out there and what works well for a caliper, rotor and pad package for the front of my truck?

Yes alot of use just run stock brakes there is no need to upgrade to bigger really yes stopping alittle bit faster is nice but i spent alot of time on the trail so my brakes do just fine, and now that i think of it i dont think there are any brake upgrade kits really avaliable or woth the money.
If you really just want to spend money on upgrading you brakes you can buy this rear disk conversion kit if you have a dana 35 rear axle

Or if you have a chrysler 8.25 rear axle you can use the rear brakes from a dodge durango i've seen it done but not sure on the parts needed.

Gotcha, I need to do something as I mine is pulling to the left under braking. figured while I was pulling the calipers off I would upgrade, but if stock is the way to go, it's money saved. Thanks for the heads up.

What size tires? Stock brakes are ok up to 31's IMO. Anything bigger and you lose braking. When I upgraded to 32's, I didn't like my brakes cuz it would be harder to stop. I ran powerstop slotted rotors and hawk pads on my TJ with 33's and i was sold on them. They stopped that rig on a dime and it weighed a bit more than my xj does. Someday I'll slap them on my xj but in the mean time i'm sticking with 31's.
Stock calipers are ok so I'd replace those and bleed your system to stop the pull. Also check the rear brakes and make sure they are adjusted evenly on both sides.

I always like the mod of going 4wheel disc brakes. That's what I did on my rig when I swapped out my D35 for a D44 along with swapping over a ZJ proportioning valve. I've got no problems getting the 33's on my rig to stop.
With a 2k XJ you either have a D35 or 8.25. If you have the D35 you need to swap that out for either an 8.25 29spl or a D44. When your doing that you can find several right ups on line about swapping them to discs. From what I've seen if your doing discs on the 8.25 you want to use discs from a ZJ and if you have the D44 like me you want to use discs from a 8.8 rear axle that came in 96+ ford explorers. There tons of right ups out there on how to do this, here's mine: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/dd...r-4784/index3/
Of course depending on your fab skills you could just swap out your rear axle for an 8.8 rear axle all together. It is a worthy choice for a rear end swap as well and will come with rear disc brakes assuming you grab one from a 96+ ford explorer.
There are so many different right ups on those axles out there comparing all 3 as to which one is the best I'm not going to get into that. It's all up to you, my main purpose is to say if you want a brake upgrade go 4 wheel disc.
Also don't forget to change your proportioning valve out while your at it to make sure you have proper brake pressure.
