it came off wheeling the other day and i need to know how important it is and what it is so i can replace it. my guess is knock sensor?



its right above the oil pan on the drivers side

i think it could be knock as well the placement would make seance and i don't know of a reason for another sensor there. but i don't know a whole lot on the older motors so i am sure some body else can confirm or reject this ides

I would gather by looking at the pick that side is the drivers. There is the coolant temp sensor that is located on that side but t has 2 prongs.
If it only has one prong that I do believe that is the knock sensor. Im almost certain of it.
Just google for parts catalogue for your xj and look in that. I had the link somewhere but cant find it now. But being that low to the crank i would just about bet on it being the knock sensor

i am positive its the knock sensor now thanks guys. it runs fine without it i will just grab o a new one next time i am at the u pull it
