Leaf Spring Install Help
How do you get the upper shakle bolt out?!?!?! Is there a "captive" nut tacked on the gas tank side?
I can't seem to get to it unless you drop the trailer hitch and perhaps the fuel tank? I have read about being careful on the one at the front of the leaf, but nothing on the upper rear bolt. Please, any advise??:help: |
There is a nut welded back there. Use lots of PB blaster becuase you can break the nut off and then you have a whole nother problem. use a breaker bar and you will probably need a heat source as the threads tend to get caught in the bushings

if your using a torch next to your fuel tank dont forget your fire extinguisher and after about two hours i find it helpful to stop my tire and have a beer then go back to work

Lots of PB Blaster, a long breaker bar with maybe even a cheater pipe and turn it RERALLY slow. You will get it without breaking it. LOTS of patience.

Thanks!
So much info so fast....
Soaked with "blaster" tonight and will continue for most of the weekend. Got a full leaf pack to replace the AAL. Saw another nice post discussing the front space I may need to add to level. Thanks Again |
your most likely gonna need a breaker bar and a cheater pipe i can dead lift like six hundred pounds and i had a hard time trying to break it free also the on the leaf spring and shackle into the frame do not have thread to the end once the bolt is free from the nut keep turning for about 3/4in

umm
why are you removing the shackle if all you are replacing is your leaf springs? |
