leaf spring holes
 

I am doing a bastard pack, and I want to put a 1/2 inch hole in the end of my leaf spring so that I can add some leaf tip inserts on what was once the dakota main leaf

Anyone know the best type of drill bit to use? I tried carbide and titanium which didnt do crap

Bosch Carbide Masonry Bit, have some water or oil slowly pouring on while your drilling to keep it cool. Slow RPMs and lots of pressure.

Just use carbide bits but start with about an 1/8" hole and gradually increase the size. Do not use a lot of pressure, you'll either dull or destroy the bit immediatly. It's gonna take some time simply because you're going through some extremely hardedned steel.

I am gonna give the masonry bits a try and let ya know how it works out

Drill press. I can not see how masonry bits would even scratch it.

I just went out and tried it with some cheap ryobi masonry bits I had in a kit. It worked great! It took about 2 minutes, a little oil, and it worked its way right through. I hit it with a regular bit when it was done to smooth out the hole.

I had regular carbide, titanium, and a cobalt that just got dull the second I hit the leaf

I think I killed the cheap bit so I will grab a few of the bosch ones on my way home from work
