So I have not solved the problem.

Since I posted this, I've changed the oil filter and oil - I went with Mopar oil and filter. But the clatter only got worse. I should have taken the advice of the person who told me not to buy it. But I'll have to wait a while - Can't afford to go buy brand new oil and filter.

I continued to hear the knocking though - so I went with 89 octane fuel instead of 87 and replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. (Needed to be done anyway. Didn't know really if it would help)

Now the knocking is even worse at start up and the idle is really rough. The knocking does go away while accelerating, but then comes back while I'm idling.

The oil is still reading about 1/2 - 3/4 inch high on the dipstick.

I also have a ticking/tapping sound coming from what sounds like the Fuel injectors/ Intake area.

At this point I would have taken it to a mechanic, but I'm in school full time and don't have the money.
