I have a 92 xj that began to have a knocking sound possibly in the engine...weird thing is though that it comes and goes. Anyone had a problem similar to mine ?? Or any ideas on that can be ?? Thanxx in advance !!

my 4.0 makes weird noises every day, I don't let it bother me its been that way for 7 years. I just pay attention to my oil pressure gauge.

Pull your distributor cap and check the shaft play in the distributor. My dist has more play than it should and it causes an intermittent "knock" from under my hood. Hope this may help.

Ive been told by my dealer that the vapor canister under the hood makes a clicking noise when cold... idk if thats a clicking you looking for.. its possible mines does

some people might say lifters but they are in engine block my 92 did that but I say rocker arms which are top sometimes it played a symphany dont go crazy with additives mybe risolone or mystery oil but do more research as most are snake-oil AND of course just my 2cts.

Check your pulley bearing and water pump. Loosen your belt and see if you have play on the water pump.
