Default knocking noise aftr NASCAR oil change??

Well this is pretty weird, the PO did not change the oil often, so i changed it twice before giving it a "NASCAR" lol, oil change, I flushed it with motor flush, put thicker 10w40 and lucas sythetic. the reason why i did this too is because it had a small knocking sound before... lol but now with this good oil change its giving me a even louder knocking sound, lol feels like it cant handle it, but my co worker has an xj as well and he also added lucas synthetic to his change and he got a knocking noise too when he did ot have one before, lol

So is this normal or what? Is the NASCAR change too good lol

Sounds to me like you flushed all the build up out of the lifters.

the knock probly got louder because of the flush getting gunk build up out now you hear more matal to metal vs gunked up metal to metal.... just my guess

nascar doesnt change oil like that.

x2 with nick

Well and metal on metal is not good. Your looking at a future engine rebuild..

But alot of 4.0L's run for years sounding "knocky".. So it's a hit and miss.

I'd say start looking for another engine to over hall while your waiting for this one to die.

lifters..........this is why i believe motor flush + high milage engines is a NO NO. very few good things come out of it.

If the rapping/knocking noise is up high, around the valve cover area, I would think it is a lifter collapsing (losing its prime).

I wouldn't flush a old or high mileage out. You probably washed out the bearings. Put some heavy weight oil in there maybe it will make it quiet down. straight 30w plus once you use synthetic oil now it a commitment because going back to regular oil will deteriorate your seals and whatever else it attacks I don't know everything about synthetic other than that you can't mix it with regular oil and your motor will run a few degrees hotter if somebody wants to correct me that would be great.

hmmmm.... well it runs good, so to tell you the truth idk, lol but i dont mine using the lucas everytime, and i will make sure i wont do a motor flush again, my mechanic cousin recommended me to do it but then again he only works on mostly cars, so i hope i didnt hurt my engine when all i trying to do is pamper it
