Knocking noise in 1st gear
I have a Jeep Cherokee (year 2000) 2.5TD. When the engine gets hot and I pull away in first gear I hear a knocking noise - this noise is imtermittent and doesn't happen all the time. I also tow with this and I sometimes get it when reversing with my trailer aswell. I am finding it difficult to narrow down what is could be and it is very difficult to hear where abouts on the car it is coming from - i think possibly the rear. I have been out in it with my mechanic several times, and it hasn't made the noise then (surprise, surprise!). It feels like it is a thumping kind of knock. I weant to get this resolved, but so far cannot find what the problem is - has anyone had anything similar or any ideas?

OK, so you didn't say whether you have a manual or automatic tranny. If it is an automatic I would check the torque converter bolts for proper tightness. If it is a manual, it could be the clutch slipping because it is getting worn out...especially if you use your Jeep for towing.
