You have just the remote? Or the whole keyless entry system?

http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...ailm/1214.html

Cross reference that link with the install documentation for your keyless entry.

If your xj came with factory keyless entry, you can use the wiring in the overhead dome light or console instead.

so this aft i found the 2 wires that go to the pass door module. they get pulled to ground by switches in driver door etc. i tested them and found one had lo volts like solid state device which i expected and hoped for, the other had 12v on it. dont know why the difference but that would call for relay control and my remote starts out with just solid state output.
the first link you showed actually confirmed that as well.
now im rethinking the project even though i can do it with relays,my remote has one button for lock/ unlock using alternate presses.
how would i know if its locked or unlocked? i could check physically but if i accidently bump the button as i leave, its unlocked!!
not sure what to do...
