just out of curiosity
the other day a friend and i were discussing stroker motors, and got in a discussion about if it would be possible to make a 5.0L stroker out of the 4.0l I6. I said no, as a 4.7 would put it at the maximum stroke, of .60
any thoughts? would it be possible, i mean ive seen instructions online of what to use to make one, but would it really work out and be reliable?

Some of the Jeepspeed guys are running 5.0L engines. They use the Mexican manufactured blocks with thicker cylinder walls.Don't know what else they do to achieve a 5.0L displacement but it has been done.

A 4.000" bore (+.125") and a crank offset ground to a 4.000" stroke would yield something like 301ci & change - close enough to five litres for government work, no?
Just pick your block carefully, and find a good crankshaft shop. Flatlander Racing makes a crank for the 258ci that has a stroke of 4.165" IIRC, that would give around 314-315ci, and I'd just love to see something like that fed 1/2-2/3atm by a Whipple...

Here's the answers to almost all your stroker questions and how to assemble them: http://www.ajeepthing.com/stroker-motor.html
Short hand yes you can have a stroker motor value ranging anywhere from 4.5L to 5.0L. You can also have less if your just cleaning out the motor for a rebuild, then you have things like 4.1 and 4.2. But it's not doing the full on stroker build like your talking about.

Check out Flatlander Racing (Google them) for information about their crank. They're saying it won't fit the 242ci block - but if it fits the later 258ci, it just might. I don't have the money to fork over for one as a test fit, and I'm on the wrong coast to cruise up there (they are, as I recall, in Vermont.) It may need clearancing of the oil sump rails, but I've done that before with Chevvy V8 strokers anyhow.
The Whipple blower on its side would require fabrication of an intake manifold, which is the second largest problem.
This build remains largely theoretical - mainly because I don't have the facilities or resources to do anything to make it practical (yet...)

Plus I don't see why the hell not, If we're getting 4.6 with a 258 crank, and 4.7 with a .030 punch and a crank, 5.0 isn't that far away...

im gonna go with the 4.7, this is one of the easiest combos i've ever ventured into. there really isnt much to it. i've stroked 454's and 350's and 302's and so on, and looking into this engine, it is by far very cheap and easy if you shop right, now as far as power gains, hmmm lets just say, it should be enough to move her a little more then she is now. now building a stroker for a cherokee isnt the same as drag racing it, im going for the torque not the high end and i dont want wayyyyyy more power, just about 25-35 more horses and cheap to build so take that in mind before you build a stroker...but 5.0 is definitly do-able

The link I posted shows exactly how to build almost every stroker combo including the 5.0, very doable with the money.

You’ll have to forgive Jon (5-90) the Jeep portion of his brain is over developed. So much so he has a lump on the side of his head to accommodate the extra mass. I’m sure if I ever got in a Jeep discussion with him he would have to talk slower and louder so I could understand him.

Hell, I don't even wear that large of a hat!
I'm just handicapped (if you want to call it that) by an outlandish curiousity and a willingness to learn whatever I can - even if I now have to learn it at my own speed.
Oh - and knowledge is soluble in ethanol. That's why I drink so much...
