Default Just bought a winch off of Ebay!!

So, I just bought a winch off of Ebay, I have never heard of Vortex but I read a couple of people saying they liked theirs and it was pretty cheap. I guess I need a bacbone now! The wife is going to kill me when she sees the credit card bill! haha

looks china built. just watch your duty cycle. and always use a snatchblock with a double line pull. it will save your winch.

I think it is China built, but for a 9500 lb shipped for $280, I think I got what I paid for! haha They are going to ship it monday via UPS ground an since it is in AL as well then it will be here the next day. So by Tuesday it should be here and I wil put up some pics of it. It is going to be sitting around for a little while waiting on the backbone to be built and shipped.

This is my first winch so I appreciate the heads up about the duty cycle. I have heard that a ****** block will basically double your pulling strength but also double the load on the winch and cut your duty cycle down. Does this sound right? Also, I have heard that it will need to be wired straight to the battery, do I not need any fuses in line?

a ****** block will double your pulling strength
it will not double the load on the winch it will reduce the load

it wont cut your duty cycle down
I would need to see the specs to determine what the duty cycle is and how doubling would effect the duty cycle

there is no info on duty cycle in that info

get a good battery
your winches performance will be hindered and you can damage it with a battery that is to Small in amp power

they recommend Battery Recommended:650CCA minimum for winching
so get one with 850 to 1000 cold cranking amps

Thanks for the info, I was looking into an Optima or is that overkill? I will be running some lights off of it as well. Also, is it correct that I should just wire the winch straight to the battery? Do I need a fuse and if so what size?

Thanks!

yes it goes right to the battery

I would not use a optima I don't think they have the cranking amps you need for the winch
I like Trojans

optima is fine, they are a gel battery.
red is for cca
yellow is deep cell
blue is marine and has better shock absorption.
i have a yellow top running my warn m8000 with absolutely no issues.
but don't wire your winch to the side terminals. warn advises against it.
just mount it up to your cable connectors.
