just bought a 91 laredo, what to do with it??
 

Ok,

So I bought a 91 laredo today for $225.00, its 4x4 with 161k on her. She doesn't have sh$t wrong with her, and I got $800.00 for a lift, 31" tires, and whatever.


I want a lift that doesn't ride rough on the highway, but i want to be able to tackle whatever comes my way, I do love the snow and mud... So please guys, What is a good lift kit that wont force me to sacrifice that oem on road feel?

also honestly what ALL do i need to do when doing a lift, like with tie rods, etc?

I want this xj to last me a long long time. so if i got to replace other stuff when doing the lift, please tell me, im kind of a newb...


SO, WHAT SHOULD I GET AND DO TO HER?

Maintance with a tune up

drain and refill every fluid and replace every filter before you even take it for a first drive.

crawl before you start mudding

A 3" lift is a pretty good starting point. You could get one with full spring packs, coil springs, and shocks from Rusty's Off Road for a reasonable price. (450ish I think) You wouldn't have to do anything after the lift except a transfer case drop. They ride nice. Remove the rear sway bar and get a little more flex out of the back, and not really lose any ride quality. If your state allows it, you could remove your fender flares and cut your fenders so that mud can get to slinging.

I would do a tune up and change all your fluids befor anything. Even if they said the did it just do it again. BUt with that said I have 3.5 inches and I love it. I would get a full leaf pack and new coil springs. Do a search on the pros and cons there are tons of threads about them. Welcome to CF

damn I thought I got a good deal on a 89 limited 4x4 with 240X miles for $240. has a few minor things wrong with it. Why are these cars sooo cheap?

anyway I gave mine a full tune up and changed the fluids, fixed my heater and blinkers, new front marker light covers, new door locks, still need to pull some actuators from the junk yard to fix some of the power locks. I'm putting in all new front ball joints and bushings, engine mounts, rough country steering stabilizer and the RC 3" lift kit with front springs long add a leaf and RC 9000 nitro shocks. That lift kit with shocks is $318 on ebay.

Like when i do a lift< is it a good idea to extend brake lines, install new lower control arms, etc. I just want to do it right, so that way I got her for the long haul..

Add a leaf won't last nearly as long as a full spring pack. It will make your jeep stand level when you first put it on, but will sag faster. The full packs will give you a little forward rake, but will probably last the rest of your jeeps life. Most 3" kits come with a rear brake line drop bracket so you don't have to extend them. The front is good. Also, with a 3", you won't need new control arms, they're just a nice addition later down the road if you decide to go bigger.

yeah i couldnt believe the deal i got, so i figure the least i can do is throw $800 in to her now and 1500 into her this summer. what could i do to make the ride less rough (as i will be driving 140 miles per day 2-4 days a week
