will a 99 4.0 work in a 97 Cherokee with a 4.0

I believe so, though i don't know about harness wise because If I'm correct, that year did not have a distributor. so the harness might not match up...but you could just pull the distributor looking thing out and run your dist. I think.....k...I think

I think it was the 2000 model that didn't have the distributor.

Yes up to 99 had a distrbutor in them I dont see any reason they wont work.

yep it will work. Now if it were a 96 you would have to swap the throttle bodies out cause the sensor plugs are diff.. but you should be good..
