Sounds like a bad ignition switch. When you turn the key, it pushes a rod that engages a slide switch kind of like a gate latch. I've replaced two, one in my 90 Laredo and one in my 97 country.

Sometimes the rod can wear our or bend so that it is unable to push the switch all the way, but that's the least likely case.

Try starting in neutral, it could be the neutral safety switch.

Assuming it's an automatic you should try jiggling the shifter while holding the key on start. In park and neutral of course. The NSS can be cleaned if it's gummy. :scooter:

Battery connections clean them - even if they look clean ,or you have done them recently !

Ok Clean THEM NOW ,on my jeep I can start it turn it off try to restart it right away and sometimes it will do nothing ,won't turn over or even click ,but everything else works. Start with the basics 3 weeks is a very long time. If this don't work for it then you know its one less thing it can be ,plus its cheap and easy to do.

I have had problems with my battery terminals for a while, It would sometimes not click, gauges would turn on, but nothing...waited a little, wiggled it a little and it worked...I finally got pissed off and got new battery terminal connectors. after cutting the old connecters of the wires, i found that the wires were really oxidized so i cleaned them the best i can and now they are fine. i'd recommend doing that if you haven't yet.

My terminals aren't in the best shape, sorta worn. If wiggling them around and sanded them work I'll replace them

Put it into Neutral and it started right up
