Anytime my jeep is hot and I try to start it it misfires pretty bad. The engine light always comes on, and sometimes blinks if it happens real bad. I brought it into the mechanic and they said it was a misfire in cylinder 3, due to the cylinder being dirty. They cleaned it, it kept happening, I brought it back they cleaned it again and it didn't do anything. Everyone else on the forum says its because of vapors left in the cylinder, and when I told the mechanic this he looked at me like I was an idiot.

It was fine during the winter because it would cool off quick, but now that its getting warmer its more of a problem. Usually I just start it then immediately rev it to 3000 RPM for like 10 seconds to flush the vapors and it runs fine. Am I find to keep doing this through the summer? Am I doing any damage? Could I be pumping a lot of fuel into the catalytic converter? I'd rather not put a ton of money bringing it to a mechanic for them to do a million random things that don't work. If that's the case I might just sell and get a newer jeep.

 

What are your vehicle specifics? Model, year, engine, etc... Search Heat Soak. Sounds like it applies to you. Simple fix. Cleaning your cylinder is not the fix.

 

Sorry its a 2001 Cherokee, 115,000 miles, 6 cylinder.
