Jeep having issues starting sometimes
I have a 1999 XJ that has recently had trouble starting about twice a week. It cranks fine. I have to give it a little gas when this happens to get it started. If i let off the gas it will die. Most of the time it starts up fine without hesitation, and runs fine. Seems like its also the first start of the day when this happens. Thanks for any suggestions

HAve you done any maintenance lately?? Cap, rotor, etc..
My best guess would be IAC, its located on the left side of throttle body if you standing at the front.
Take that off (2 torgue screws) clean well with TB Cleaner or equal.. Let dry and reinstall.
Also while your there i would suggest cleaning the TB itself to insure proper air flow and to make sure that the butterfly is seating properly.

No, I haven't done any maintenance lately. The first time this happened was on the way to get it smogged. It passed smog with flying colors. I will check the IAC. Thanks

Just happened to my jeep yeterday. It was going on for about 2 weeks. Sometimes it would start sometimes it would take forever to start. I went to autozone and got my battery load tested and the little computer said may not start in cold or hot conditions and that the battery was on its last life. So I bought a new battery hopefully my problem goes away. Hope that helps. Mines a 97

I'm a bit skeptical of auto parts store testing after they told me my Hondas starter was fine two weeks ago. After reinstalling it and wasting another 3 hours looking at other things, I replaced the starter and the car started right up. The jeep cranks over really strong. And a cold day in California, well, isn't really that cold. Thanks though. If the IAC cleaning doesn't work, maybe I will pull and test the Battery.

Easy test:
Get a meter put it on the battery (Not literally getting it a just putting it on top lol) Test with vehicle off and no lights..
Next.. same test with vehicle off all lights on, fans on, and anything else you have.. See the difference (shouldnt be much)
Testing Alt and load:
Start vehicle test alt pos+ terminal to battery with good ground.. should be around 13.5-14v.. With this you know how well your alt is doing..
Same test with lights on accessaries on, a/c etc.. check the difference (again shouldnt be much of a change)
Home made load tests!!
This is for : gun_bandana: All auto parts stores ran by complete idiots!!! :confuse d1:
