Default Jeep grinding when turning left

Hello!

I just replaced my transmission mount to fix a grinding noise on take-off from a stop. That seems to be fixed now, but now whenever I'm making a left turn I get a grinding noise. It's just a left turn too, right turns seem to be just fine.

Could this be a sign I need to replace my motor mounts? they look fine but I don't know exactly how to check them without removing them. Any tips?

Thanks!

Random thought... right-side wheel bearing?

Possibly. The situation only presented itself after changing the transmission mount, but I'm willing to check all possible situations.

How would I confirm this? Or is it something that just needs to be replaced to see if it was bad.

Thanks!

It doesn't seem like a wheel bearing... I noticed now too that in reverse it kind of does the same thing but even worst, even when stopped completely. It's more of a feeling than anything else, it's very difficult to record because of that.

When I put in the transmission mount, I could mount it only in one direction but flipping it 180 degrees in either way would fit too. I noticed though that flipped one way it seemed like two of the bolts stuck out more than the others. There is also 2 washers between the 4 crossmember bolts, put there by the previous owner. It's not a T-Case drop thing because I don't have a T-Case, since my jeep is 2wd(). Is it possible that I could be putting too much stress on the engine with the new transmission mount due to the new transmission mount sitting differently than the older and used up one?

I'm seriously considering slapping the old one back on to see if I would still have these issues...

Engine - probably not. U-joints, absolutely. You may need to replace the u-joints on the driveshaft - they tend to get comfortable where they are and can get grumpy when you make changes that affect the angle they're running at.

Pulling the driveshaft is simple enough - mark the shaft and axle yoke so you can re-install the same way, disconnect the straps from the rear axle, pop the driveshaft out of the axle yoke and slide it straight back and off the output shaft. (Of course, do double check this since I'm assuming the 2wd is comparable to the 4wd.) Be careful to not dislodge the the open caps if you find the u-joint is ok.

Check the u-joints for smooth operation or just replace them since they're a wear item.

Please clarify what you mean about it happening when stopped completely - is it a grind you're getting? It's not a u-joint if it happens when not moving.

What brand tranny mount did you use?

OK I figured out the issue. Turns out the cheap duralast part ($60) I got from AutoZone wasn't a direct fit, and it caused some issues where the transmission wasn't seating on the mount properly. That caused all the vibrations.

I don't have the money to buy the OEM part right now, but I replaced the old part back in and will just accelerate slowly for the next couple weeks until I get can the new part.

Thanks guys!

Napa has a good track record as well. Look around for the Mopar, it's probably not nearly as expensive as you might think.

I'm going to call the dealership to see if they have the Mopar part in stock. Is this the Mopar part?

https://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/...2059347AB.html

The picture just doesn't look right, but the title and the price of the part look about right. It's also the same price as the Napa part, which I've heard is really good as well. I figure though if they're the same price, just to go with Mopar because it's lasted 170k miles so far, probably will last that much or longer.

I think so. Part number is correct, diagram appears to be off.

Mopar part# is 52059347AB
