Hi!
1990 Xj .
Weird thing no 1:
my fuse board is upside down
have you seen this before? Looks like it have not been removed before but I could be wrong.
weird no 2:
my turn signal flasher has been relocated and taped on to a wire harness under the dash. Are the colours of the cables the correct ones here? On the backside of the fuse board, the relay wiring is missing.
the turn signals work but the dash is always flashing simultaneously and the hazard is not flashing on the dash at all, but works otherwise.
Isn’t it supposed to be turned the other way? Turn signal flasher relay socket Backside with no wiring Three pin relay taped under the dash, controls the turn signals, but it’s supposed to be a 2 pin relay? Are these the colours expected for the flasher relay?
Your picture is rotated 90*. If I'm orienting correctly by looking at the carpet and pedal bracket as a reference, then the fuse panel is oriented correctly. The rectangular metal resetable fuse for the wipers is on the bottom.
Are you sure the orientation of your 1st pic is correct? Based on the carpet line, your pic looks 90deg off.
The round silver can is the flasher (upper right) in the fuse block. The empty spot next to the "power acc" is the turn signal spot. It should only have 2 wires. It's not really a relay but a more of a switch. Once enough current goes through it, it heats up and disconnects, then cools down and reconnects. That's why the signals don't flash if one bulb is out (not enough current draw).
I'm not sure what "relay" you're holding. The wire colors don't match the wiring diagram. Should be a brown (key on power from Ignition switch), a grey (to the horns), a grey/red (to the steering column, then up the column to the horn slip ring. Check the wires on the blue relay in the background.
You can get the 1990 FSM here, Grab the parts manual and any other files while you can.
Ah got it, the image was rotated yes, to make it even more confusing. I was wondering since all the instructions show the panel in another rotation, standing vertically, and mine is laying down with the blue chime buzzer to the left.
Anyways- after a thorough tracking of the red/grey wire (thanks saudade) i finally found the horn relay thing behind the big wiring harness going through the firewall. There was no relay in the socket so very hard to find. Next up- hunt for the right part to go in it!
So there you are you sneaky plastic thing
The blue square relay located on my left under the dash is still a mystery. Tried to pull it and see what didn’t work, but no result. Ill look up the wire colours next. Progress!
