Intermittent stalling/hard start condition solved!
Hello all! My XJ is a spare vehicle primarily used for 5 - 6 months out of the year as a camping vehicle. I love it. I left a campground last fall and the jeep started to stall out like it was starving for gas while driving over some washboard roads. After it stalled out completely, I checked and I had fuel in the fuel rail, I had spark. I had to wait 5 minutes or so before she'd start again. Once I got onto a flat smooth road she ran fine all the way home. From then on, sometimes she was hard to start cold or hot, sometimes stalling or running rough sometimes running fine without issue. I shot the parts cannon at it. CPS, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor.. No change. I took the throttle body off and cleaned it all up. I removed the IAC and upon inspection I noticed it was stuck, the collar wouldn't move. scrubbed it up and now no more hard start or intermittent stalling. Morale of the story - a can of carb cleaner, some paper towels and a nylon brush might save you from spending mucho dinero on parts you don't necessarily need. On the other hand I have a spare CPS, cap and rotor.
