Interior floor lights - what bulb?
I'm trying to swap out all the interior lights in my 1998 XJ to LEDs. My factory manual says "underpanel courtesy lamps" are type 168. This is a wedge type bulb. When I take out the bulb that is there, it's some type of bayonet base. No way a 168 would fit here.
What type of bulb fits here? Am I correct that the two lights on the front under the dash pointed at the floor are the "underpanel courtesy lamps"?

Already started buying LEDs one by one, so I don't need a whole kit. Would have been nice a few weeks ago though.
I checked that, but it's unreadable on both bulbs. I guess I could go to Walmart and try to compare...
Yeah, that definitely will not work. That looks like the 168 the manual calls for, but that's a wedge base, the bulbs in there are bayonet base. Totally different.
Very odd that the factory manual that has been living in my Jeep for almost 20 years is incorrect...

I recently did this conversion in our '00 and '01 jeeps. The underpanel courtesy lamps are listed as 168 in the owner's manual, but they single contact bayonet bulbs and are stamped G6 12V.

No, not even close. Like posted above they are bayonet base...that's a wedge base. Kinda like plugging a blender into a dryer outlet..no worky. From the list above it sounds like they could be the "53" or "G6".
It looks like this:

I guess I'll just have to take one down to the store and compare, for some reason the markings on both of mine are unreadable.

I'm interested in doing this myself, swapping the under dash lights, dome lights and other roof clicky lights with LEDs.
its nuts that there are so many options of lights!

I'm not replacing my lights because they are burnt out. I'm replacing them because I want a much, much, much better quality of light and LEDs are super cheap at this time.
As a bonus, if I forget my dome light is on, it won't drain the battery so quickly.

LED > Bulb. Do you still talk on a rotary dial phone?
