Default Intake Manifold Gap

Well, I just finished installing the intake and exhaust manifolds after replacing the freeze plugs. Major PITA.

From what I can tell there are most no gaps but right where the alignment pins are there is a small gap between the manifold and the block. Everywhere else that I can see, it looks like a tight fit.

i don't remember the area around the alignment pin holes being offset from the rest of the manifold.

Hope that makes sense.

Here is a pic of the pin, it looks like it is centered in the hole. In the 2nd pic though, you can see where I able to fit the end of a small 90 degree pick in between the two.

Am I ok, or is something wrong?

What year?

On my 1996, if I remember correctly, the intake manifold tabs that line up with the pins, do have a small offset so they don't sit flush against the head.

You'll know right away if you have a leak if the RPMs go high on start up.

Thanks, I even oiled the pins a little before assembly so hopefully it is correct.

I don't have it all back together yet, trying to figure out if I did it correctly before finishing.

I don't think I could redo this job again anytime soon.

Yeah, the job is a PITA. But you'll be so much faster the 2nd time around, you will love it.

Finally got it all back together and it runs like a top.

I thought I would update this thread in case anyone runs across it later with the same question.
