Installing a New Tierod
 

Okay i have a new HD tierod. I currently have the DW I think because my old one is bent. I would like to install the new one tonight but i cant get an alignment done for a couple of days. Whats my best bet? count the threads on each side of the TR as i remove the old ends. that way i can install the new one with the stock length? Or will the new shaft and ends be different lengths. Its a Rustys HD. Thanks for any help!

I was just thinking about this today, funny you should make a thread about it.
I was think you could take your current tie rod off and make a jig out of a 2x4. lay the tie rod on the 2x4 and drill holes where the bolts would go. then remove the old tie rod and put the new one on the jig and adjust it till the bolt holes line up.
Just a thought, maybe it will work

When I installed my lift I did the alignment roughly myself, needless to say it was fine for a day or two, but I would recommend waiting until you can get an alignment. More power to ya if you do it yourself though:cheers:

I'm going to try tomorrow, not today. The problem with the 2x4 idea is that my tierod is bent and shorter than it needs to be.

Any other ideas?

I heard that it is better to toe out than in because it puts pressure on the axle but it can wear tires down quicker. If you can't get an alignment right away.
