Inoperative temp and oil gauges on 96 4.0L

Finished a motor swap, the mentioned gauges are not working.

I did not run the engine to temp and check it before i pulled the engine, i did however notice the oil pressure gauge was inop and stationary at 58psi, running or not.

I replaced the water temp sender on rear of head, did not help. This is the sender i believe that sends signal to the gauge, the one on thermostat being for the aux fan... correct?

I'm thinking the Jeep has a bad instrument cluster, which is not original to the vehicle. We believe it was swapped to hide the true mileage of the vehicle.

I'm not much of an electrical guy.. anyone have input that could help me out?

<edit: i didnt read the thread title...>

you are correct about the sender on the back of the head, that is for the gauge. if it is an HO motor then yes the sensor on the thermo housing is for the computer and fan. if it is renix, the temp sensor is on the block under the exhaust manifold.

have you tried swapping out clusters?

does the temp gauge sweep when you turn the key? how about the oil gauge?

I went to the local upull, someone grabbed all the full gauge clusters.. so no, not yet.

The temp gauge does not move, regardless of key position. Neither does the OP gauge. Temp gauge is pegged at lowest temp, op is stuck at 58psi.

The sending unit i put in the head had two prongs, which matched the plug. So that has me thinking they gave me the correct sender and not one for an idiot light. Correct?

the stuck oil gauge makes me think it's the cluster that has the problem

Exactly what i think. I'll look for one at another yard this weekend.

Would any electrical speedo cluster work, or would it need to be 96 specific because of the OBDII? Anyone know?..

I think I used a 94 when when I did the cluster swap from the idiot lights on my 96
