Injector Issues?
SO, driving down the 401 into Toronto, I started to notice a faint gas smell.. I get to work and check, and 2 of my injectors are leaking. They are 23 years old, and could probably do with some replacing.
I replaced them with the Neon Injectors. Now... When cold, it starts up just fine, and runs just fine. But when it gets hot, It has a stumble if its just idling, or if I start it when its hot, It seems to have a bit of a bad miss untill I rev the engine a few times, or get out on the road. I noticed that the metal injector bodies were touching the intake manifold, so I think that the injectors may have been over heating and causing the miss. This morning, I pryed out on the fuel rail a bit to pull the injectors away from the manifold. but ensured they are still seated and sealed. Im going to use some propane around the intake to see if there is a leak too. Any other suggestions? |
What year XJ? 2000-2001 had a TSB for heat soak on the injectors.

You only replaced two of the injectors?
Replace the rest. Neon injectors have a higher flow rate. But yes, the hot-restart misfire is a very common issue. All you can do is heat-shield the crap out of the injectors and hope they stay cool, or open your hood every time you get done driving. |
so far, after 2 x 45 min drives with the engine at operating temp... both restarts were flawless.
