I have a 1990 XJ that came with factory fog lights. I would like them to be independent of the low/high beam. I don't want to do a whole rewire of them and was hoping that a simple jump of the relay would be in order. does any one have any knowledge of how to do this or am I looking at a rewire job?

your better off just rewiring them. to make it easy just trace all your power lines from the switch to the relay and bypass it by running your own relay so you don't overload your lines. most times the relay in the system is the same one that comes with hella fogs and it just cuts power when the high beams come on.

not necessarily your fog lights have a relay right? just remove the positive source for the relay and just wire from a positive threw a switch and then to the relay then leave the ground to the relay alone and your done should work 100%

I'll put it this way. my other vehicle when I have the parking lights on I can turn on the fogs as well, when the highs are on the fogs go off. on my XJ i can only turn on the fogs if I have the low beams on, however I also want to be able to leave them on with my high beams on or with the parking lights on, cutting your light output and keeping it low on foggy/snowing darkness is crucial to not get blinded by blow back. however sometimes you just need those extra lights at night with the high beam. but yes my factory system has a separate switch and relay from the head lights.
