im getting 5mpg help
Hey I'm getting 5 mpg I'm all stock and I'm a 93 auto xj on 235's I just did a tune up changed my spark plugs and oil wires and my o2.... I only drive to school and back like 10 miles but a tank of gass won't last me. Week
...i don't have any fule leaks and I just replaced my tps...help!!!!!:001_huh: |
Wow, okay, even for a Jeep that's not good MPG... Do you smell gas when you first start her up and sitting still? Make sure you don't have any fuel leaks. Also, does the engine sound good?
|
The thing is no leaks so gas smell she runs like new easiest starting xj ever.
|
Could have gotten a faulty o2, it happens. Do you know what brand you got? Because Bosch o2 sensors are ****. I can think of any other thinks that would do this except a leak but you said that isn't present
|
I think it was something else OEM ...seafoam??
|
Seafoam isn't going to fix a 10+ mpg deficiency. It's the failure of an emissions or fuel system part and in my mind I'm leaning toward the o2
|
Try replacing the o2

There could be any number of things causing low MPG but I would check your distributor cap first and make sure the contacts are all clean and the cap is in good condition. A faulty OČ could be causing it. A plugged air filter/intake will cause this. Incorrect ignition timing, worn timing belt, centrifugal advance mechanism sticking, defective coolant temp sensor, clogged or defective PCV valve, vacuum leak, dirty injectors, bad fuel pressure regulator...
There are a lot of things that could be wrong but start with your distributor and make sure you're getting good spark. |
There is 2 options
1) get a better fuel efficient car for to and from school driving.. OR!!!!!!!! 2) Get a strong girlfriend to push.. |

The answer isn't a different car. That's a flippant, unhelpful response... Jeeps kick ***, all issues included!!! They are just frustrating when not runnin right :) boshc o2's don't seem good for jeeps. Get good oem ones- mine were like 110/ea. DONT say I overpaid, it's my budget!! (I had one guy say I overpaid. I didn't take to kindly to it...) umm, anyways... Both o2's could be suspect, still. Get it on a code reader to be sure... Also do some thread searches on poor mpgs? Check your tank, too!! Could be full of ****?? Good luck!
