Default I'm a dummy...lost strainer in fuel tank...ideas?

I really don't want to drop the tank. I broke the rubber retainer at the bottom of the fuel pump. Thought it would still hold the strainer. I was wrong. Wasnt getting fuel pressure and wouldn't start. Pulled the unit and it came out minus my new strainer.

I reached in there and couldn't feel it. Couldn't find with a screwdriver digging around either. Anyone have any ideas? The axel won't let me reach all the way inside. I'd probably just leave it and get another but I'm afraid it might be in the way of the unit sitting properly.

Any ideas?

Got it! Well, more precisely my wife got it as my arm was too fat to get in there far enough. However I did find this?

What is it?

Okay. So that fits on the end of the return line and sits inside a plug in the tank. Mine is cracked and failing. Is this piece important at all? Can I just stick it in place with some rtv or a zip tie and reinstall?

I can't find a part number or a name to find this piece. Plus I'm thinking I won't have the best luck sourcing this locally. I want to get this up and running today so I can move in with troubleshooting an issue with the rough idle.

It just holds the bottom of the sending unit steady, once the sender is in place it shouldn't go anywhere. put a very tiny bit of rtv to hold it in place when installing the sender and you should be fine.

Great. Thank you. I broke the rubber piece that holds the bottom of the pump in place and holds the strainer on. Turns out I can't buy just that. Looks like this thing is getting a new fuel pump today. Ugh. Might have to cheap out and go airtex over Bosch. There is a $40 difference in pump.

Sucks because i habe 2 more fuel pumps lying around that work. Maybe I'll just RTV that strainer on as well....

Installed the new fuel pump. Rtv held the piece in line. Ended up putting in a new fuel pump anyway. Thanks for your input.
