Hi again to all,

I just put in an overhauled long block in my XJ, and I'm almost positive that the timing is a little retarded. No where on the data plate on the hood does it give the value for the timing, although the timing cover does have the timing tab/incriments on it.

The new motor is a slug, and I'm aware that I'll need to trim the little ears off the distributor in order to rotate the shaft. I haven't done it yet; I'd like to see where I stand before I remove the dizzy (no need to trim the ears if the timing is dead on)

 

When trying to find out about the timing, I read in the manual that the 4.0L's timing is controlled by the CPS and the PCM, and that moving the dist. doesn't affect the timing.
I've never owned, or worked on a 4.0L, so all I have to go by is the manual. Conflicting replies are appreciated.
