ignition switch swap
The ignition switch on my 89 XJ is worthless, as in you don't need a key to turn it. Which turns out to be perfect since I don't have the key... So I am going to mount an aftermarket switch (complete with key) somewhere on my dash. I am pretty sure the battery wire is the thick red one comming out of a connector on the collumn. Accesory is the thick yellow and the starter wire would be the little green one. My questions is ... Is that correct? Top side of the lower part of the steering column.

nope nope. trying to cut the wires where they come into the column.
hooked it up, thick red wire to the 'bat' terminal on the switch, the thick yellow wire to the 'acc' terminal and the thinner green wire to the 'ign' terminal on the switch. when i turned the key to acc it seemed like it was in the on position with the fuel pump clicking. when i turned it to on the starter spooled up and when i clicked it to start the ground wire fried...not confused? lol

not really for security reasons, just happens to be what I have onhand...sometimes that notion is lost on others, but I'm not up for buying a new column lock set when i have a switch here that'll do just fine, if I can get the wires straight. Catch my drift?

No key huh, where do you live?
mine is the same, it was only about $10 for a new lock since it is the GM style
