Default Ignition Switch problem, key can't come out

I have the steering wheel off and pulled the key cylinder out. The cylinder is fine.
The line on the cylinder will not match up with the line on the column. You match those 2 lines up and the key comes out. But it is like 1/4in or less away from the line, but do not meet up so my key is stuck.

I took the cylinder out and it works fine.

Then the gears on the left side of the column for the key cylinder I checked that and that seems out of alignment. The bolt that goes from the key cylinder across over to the gears wont line up proper so I can get the key out.

I check where the power switches are and that is proper. The metal linking that goes from the wheel down to the middle of the column where the electrical part of the switch is just fine. Goes all the way up and down, etc.

On the left side of the column where there the gears are for the key cylinder, there is a plastic one and metal one. It seems that the metal gear is out of alignment. How do I get this metal gear adjusted? You can easily pull the plastic one off but no matter what I want to do, it won't line up or fit.

I can't really going around town either with my key still in the damn ignition cause that just asking to be stolen.

I have an extra plastic gear maybe I could just modify it or something, but then the plastic will loss strength.
Not really sure what to do atm.

Also, when with the column and wheel all together, I try to get the lines to match up using good old brute force, the plastic housing bends down.

Will be looking at it some more tomorrow, but I am just stumped. It is too cold for me to go out side.

not a good explanation? I can take lots of pictures if I need to.

But im 90% positive that metal gear needs to be moved towards me a little more but don't know how too.

Or maybe there is some kind of locking system that you have to "disable" to get the key out?

Like turn the wheel or something?
Pushing the key in and down at the sametime does nothing.
