Ignition switch frustration
I am trying to replace the ignition switch in a 1993 Sport with tilt. I am frustrated beyound belief. I thought this would be a couple hour job that is about to set me back 2 days. The connecting rod coming from the key switch seems to extend to far to be inserted into the switches hole. I lowered the steering coloum to no avail. I was able to insert the rod into the hole but there is way to much tension on the switch bracket to mount it properly. For some reason the 90 degree bend in the rod end is more vertical than horizontal, and extends to far. The key lock cyclinder seems to extend and retract the rod properly but no where close to correctly fitting into the switch. The only thing I can think of is the rod is somehow not connected to the key lock cyclinder properly....thus overextending it's correct length for the switch installation. Im lost, and am now operating the switch manually with it hanging down between my feet. Please help!
