Ignition switch and Auto shift
The last time that we drove our Jeep Cherokee 2001 last week, we couldn't restart it, and we had difficulty getting the auto shift out of park...there seems to be a connection between the auto shift and the ignition.
We are getting ready to have it towed to a mechanic but would like to know if other Jeep owners had experienced the same problem and what the resolution is.

There is a cable that runs from your brake pedal to your shifter so that you cant shift without holding down your brake pedal, it could have slipped out at one end or the other or could just be worn out. If you want you could check at the very top of the brake pedal and under the console to make sure its connected before paying someone alot of money to do something thats pretty simple to check yourself.
