ign light

hi, again.. this is only my second post,so by way of intro i have 2 XJs..a 92 &96..i just unfortunately had the 96 stolen.. i work in a hospital, came in for an emergency @11p & by 3a the car was GOOONE!!I got it back (i'll spare you that story)now i'm putting it back 2tghtr..i had to buy a 95 junker 2 get what i needed ..ive got the body fixed.. & i used the ign switch from the 95(which had a tilt column)the only problem is the little lite in the ign switch won't go out.. all fuses are ok,nothing blown in the relay center under the hood..whats up?!?the only thing is the turn signals now work with the key out..they knocked the steering off so the steering wheel is 90deg off(hope the gear box is okay-its leaking fluid).i diconnected the lite but would like have it work also will the column from the 95 work in the 96?95 is OBD1 &96 is OBD2? thx

Especially someone who works in a hospital right? I'd understand if they said they work at a McDonald's though...

I wish someone would steal mine. I leave my windows open... doors unlocked... it would probably be pretty easy to start it, if someone knew my jeep.

A lot of things changed in 96. You are correct that 96 is the first year of OBD2.
Best I can suggest is to find wiring diagrams for both years and do whatever adapting you have to do for the key light, turn signals and such.
If the steering box is leaking you *might* be able to put in a seal kit, but if it's damaged by impact it may never seal right. Time for a replacement then.

thx radi, sorry guys about the punctuation errors( not grammar)but my computer typing skills aren't too good..i know i'll probably have to swap the box out of the 95..if the column doesn't just bolt up i won't bother w/ the tilt..i don't need it.

You haven't walked into any hospitals lately? It's hard to tell the difference between a McDonald's and hospital.LOL

The 96 model year was kind of a bastard year for the XJ, it would be best to find your parts from another 96. There were a lot of little one year only changes for the 96.
