Default Hotwire?

Ok so im tired of my jeep not starting so I need to hotwire it. I just need to get it to my mechanic without the expensive tow bill.
How would I go about it? It's a 91' laredo 4.0 auto.

maybe a bad neutral safety switch (NSS) do a search on this forum. I had the same problem, went to clean my nss found the po tried to do this and cracked the case trying to pull it off, i simply re-installed and spliced the wires togeter on the body side of the nss plug. ppl will tell you not to do this and it will mess with your tranny however mine has been trouble free since doing the splice, just wire up a switch for the reverse lights.

Been there and done that. Thanks though. New starter and solenoid, ing switch, starter relay, batt., batt connections, cleaned grounds, rebuilt nss,. Some of the gages peg out when I turn the key. I even tried to arch the solenoid. Sparks but nothing. Starter and battery bench tested good. I must hotwire this thing.
<--- That's her in my avatar. I miss driving her.
Thanks in advance.

If your NSS is going bad, sometimes shifting into Neutral will let it start.

I know its not a hotwire fix but be sure to check your engine ground. I spent a whole day trying to get my jeep to start and when it got dark I saw a spark at the ground cable and figurd out it was just loose.Nothing on the engine works without a good ground

if the starter wont turn then you can't hotwire it. you need to figure out why the starter wont work. if you have a good hot battery and a good clean ground. crossing the solenoid should make it turn over. if it does'nt then the starter is bad. you said you had it tested and it was good. double check all the connections again and make sure the battery is hot.

x2. If it isnt turning over with the key, or by jumping at the solenoid hotwiring isnt going to help any.

Isnt a technical hotwire just bypassing the ignition anyways?

I personally would just troubleshoot the issue, instead of possibly making a mess of things....just remember rule out what you can and keep level headed while doing so.

Also, just because a starter and or solenoid bench test ok, doesnt totally rule it out....I have heard of that being the case more than once (bench test ok and are somehow still bad)! I wouldnt rule them totally out of the picture yet.

Hello, I need to hotwire also, My cherokee was stolen a month ago, and the thieves just broke the ignition key with a screwdriver or something, now the police have recovered it, and the stupid tow guy didn't want to leave the Cherokee at my yard, so he left it in a Mall parking lot!!! I tried with the key but is not fully inserting and not moving to the start position.. (I just can lock/unlock). I need to hotwire to bring it home and then change the ignition key swicth.

Please someone can give me some trick to start? hotwire? some wiring inside the engine.

Help please, I don't want the Cherokee being stolen again!

Thanks!

This thread should be renamed "how do thieves steal an Jeep XJ?".

I don't know you, I don't know your intentions. For that I am not going to tell you how to hotwire an XJ. I will only advise you to cough up $50 to get it towed to your house for repair or buy another ignition switch and swap it out. the steering column is probably broken open so it will be a 5 minute job.

Forgive me for being a bitter someone broke into and stole my XJ in 2004. I was without my baby for several months before the police recovered it. Insurance had already written it off and I had moved on. Every day I had to drive the ******* rental car was like repeated punches in the junk. I have never recovered from that so forgive me for being an *******.

Anyone that knows how to bypass the ignition but didn't say how I thank you!

Well if the people who stole it could start it without the key you should be able to figure out how they did it and get it home
