Default I thought it was u-joints...but

I thought my u-joints where bad. I crawled underneath my XJ and the u-joints are fine. The XJ makes a sound(like bad u-joints) when pressing the gas quickly and letting off the gas quickly. Any idea's about what it could be and what should I check next?

P.S. Info that may help: 4x4, 4L, AW-4 Trans, NP242 t-case, 1995 Sport, 143k miles.

It's just slack in your rear gears due to age and mileage.

A clanking sound similar to bad u-joints I will check everything you guys said to. Also if it helps it does it in 2 and 4wheel drive.

dacr89-I have the same sound/feel. I have a 99' 4x4 Sport with 137K. When you "lightly" press and release the gas. Does it go away?

Slip yoke need greasing? If it's sticking it will clunk when you start and stop. Drove me nuts on my '98 but it's an easy fix.
