I think my jeep is a cat...
Ok so here we go, another no start thread.
I have looked around and I think I have found what the problem might be but I just wanted to see if anyone else had some ideas or similar problems. The problem is that when every it rains, my jeep wont start, no power anywhere (radio, dash, lights) but when it dries up, it will start just fine. It just doesn't like water . I think it is a grounding problem but I would like to know what you think. Thanks

dist cap and wires wouldn't cause the OP to not have power to the accessories.
OP: my first step would be to replace the battery terminals with new ones, cleaning up the battery posts really well and using plenty of dielectric grease (found in little packets by the register in your local auto parts store) during the re-install. This should fix your problem. Report back it the issue persists.

So it doesnt start just sitting theyre when it rains? Or after you drive thru some puddles it wont restart?
Definitely replace the bat terms, theyre $1.50 anyway.
Id be looking for water coming in anywhere too

I am of tomorrow so I will work on fixing the problem and let you know the outcome. What happend was that I drove it to the store and it started and ran fine. It rain abit after I got home and when I went to start it to go to work, it was dead. The next day I tried it again and I turned the key to the on position, every thing worked but then when I went to start it, it clicked then everything died. I started up just fine today. My brother made the riddle: What didn't start yesterday, started today but won't tomorrow?
I am planning on cleaning all the gounds then coating with dielectric grease (we have so much of that stuff in my garage, my brother works at auto zone and he might as well have bought a 5 gallon bucket with as much as he brought home one day) and replacing terminals, hopefully that will work.
darknezz- lol, this is the first time it has happend and I haven't been through any puddles in a while. I am scared that it might die in the middle of a puddle.

I replaced the terminals and grounding strap. I soaked the jeep with water and it started right up. I hope the problem has been fixed but I won't know for sure until it rains again. I think it has been fixed but you never know...
Thanks again for the advice.

I'm glad it's fixed. If it does it again check your windshield around the stearing column and fuse box, I had a 87 do something similiar it turned out the water was coming in and getting on the main power switch on top of the column and also dripping down the wires from it to the fuse box shorting it out, just a thought. Floor at my feet stayed dry it was going under the carpet from the firewall and down a convienant rust hole.

it should. The fact that the accessories worked then shut off when you tried to start the engine was a dead giveaway for the battery terminal connections being crappy.

Ground the cat.
Had ground wire, bat to block, fail in past, intermittent problem or no start, especially when wet. Good to hear it fixed Sounds like you've got that cat by the tail.
PS This is Jeeps the go anywhere kitten, I could definately benefit if this cat had more grounding.
