Question I need to replace the rear drive shaft u joints, so

I called a place that does this work and he mentioned he would replace the u joints and Balance the rear drive shaft. Is that BS? I never heard of that since i began to inquire about it till today. His fee is $120. with u joints if i disassemble and bring to him, or $170 if i bring the truck to him, is that a fair price?

If your talking about the rear shaft then no,its not bs IF it needs balanced. That seems high to me. Ask how much to remove them only and install the new ones yourself.I have had a shop remove them when I can't get them out and it is around$10 to $20 to have removed.

Unless you bent your driveshaft or it fell and hit something hard, you dont need to re balance it. I would just do the u-joints yourself, they take 20 minutes to do...I just had my girlfriend do mine while I was working.

all you need is a small and large socket and a bench vise.
