Question I Need Help With A New Stereo, any experts?

Thinking about putting in a new stereo - and I want to run new speaker wires from my headunit to the 4 speakers.

Is this that difficult? I want to use the old speaker wires as a snake for the new ones.

What if I am adding in an amp and sub. I am getting a 4 channel amp, and want to run the front door speakers to it, and then bridge the subwoofer to the other 2 open channels. Has anyone else done this? Where should I put my amp? I dont care if people see it, I want it to be as easy to put in as possible.

Thanks Guys!

I think the question is why would you want to run new wires unless there's an open or short?

Ahhh

And you verified this how? Did you actually meter the wires?

spkr + to spkr - ?

Each wire to ground?

Is this a new problem or has it been not working since you got the truck?

Factory radio installed now or aftermarket?

Default Speaker Wire

I still run the OEM speaker wire that powered the original Jensen Hi Fidelity speakers provided by AMC. So the wire has almost as much age on it as me. I'd say about 16ga max. I did cut and reterminate (solder) the spade ends in the front doors wires. Yet I run a 2 channel 400Wmax amp and power the front two Pioneer speakers. I didn't amp the rears as my opinion is they are fillers but did also replace with Pioneers. You can install the speaker brand of your choice. I run a second 2 channel 400Wmax amp bridged condition for the sub. If you are bridging 2 channels of a 4 channel amp you need some more input here because that is beyond my electronics knowledge. However it is also dependent on what your powering in your subs, 1 or 2, and the net resistance, ohms. I would say the second two channels bridged are ok if the net ohms on those channels match your 1st two channels. Bottom line is the OEM wiring in the door speakers is still working great with the tunes volume a kickin.

Sorry just caught the info on the short. You can fish the new wire thru the rubber booty sleeve with a piece of light coat hanger or even lighter firm wire, say stainless wire or an under wire from the wifes bra, it's all for a good cause. Just sayin you'll have to fish it thru.

All I know is that my left front speaker doesn't work, so I might as well run all new wires, I'm getting new 6.5 inch speakers and a sub and an amp. So there's going to be new wires to the speakers anyway

Ive seen posts and pics that the 6.5's are a drop in fit for the front doors, some self tap screws or small drill for the new holes. Go with 14ga for the new wire as it will be good conductivity for your amps and will be strong when tugging for the install. The toughest spot will be thru the rubber booty sleeve from the door to the body. I suggest fishing thru direction from the door back thru to the cab. Another note, suggest you cover the backside of the door speakers, plastic shields or even bags to protect from water leaking down past the window seals. Good luck, a future update would be cool. Even some info on the viability of the bridge you suggested with the amp. Have posed that question to a buddy of mine with good auto electonics background, no response back yet.

When my mom bought the jeep new in 2001, it had the old factory stereo, and the first thing she did was get a brand new one. It has had that stereo in it for like 9 years, and all the other speakers are fine, so i imagine its the wire. But i am getting a new head unit too.

In that case look at the section of wires in the door jam. Chances are one got pinched off there. Split the loom and butt splice or solder the broken wire back together. It's a pretty easy fix. Prolly easier than running new wires (last resort).
