I was (kinda) stupid [seat bolt broken]
Long Version:
So I was replacing the hood release cable assembly which sustained damage and had the handle break off. While replacing this I decided that it would be easier to reach up under the dash for me if I removed the drivers side seat. As you can ascertain from the title of this post one of the bolts broke. It's the rear bolt on the side closest to the driver side door. I've got WD-40 on it tonight and tomorrow morning I'll try backing it out. My dad wants to replace the bolt with an OEM bolt because otherwise he's afraid it'll be unsafe. I only have access to Autozone and Menards tomorrow. Can I just replace it with a grade 8 bolt, or is the OEM one a higher grade? (`98 Jeep Cherokee Sport)
Short Version:
What is the OEM bolt for a `98 Cherokee sport rear left seat bolt? I broked it and need to fix it.

Get some vise grips under the Jeep onto the exposed part of the bolt and twist it out. I had the same problem. Use what you can of it to match the threads at a hardware store. Or you could drill it and use a bigger bolt and nut on the bottom.

I guess my main question is, do they use a special safety grade bolt for that? My dad says that they do, but I wasn't able to find them for sale on the autozone website, and if they were special bolts, I would imagine you would be Able to at least order them through an auto parts store.

No, no special bolts. Once you get it out, take to menards and match it up. You can use grade 8 to feel safe. But, really if you are hit hard enough to snap a grade 5 bolt, there will be much bigger things to worry about.

That bolt is Metric. M8-1.25x30 MM, flange head. Class 8.8 as I recall. Look at the head of the bolt that snapped off and see if there is a number on it. This will be the Class number ofthe bolt.
You can use a standard class 8.8 bolt and a washer in the place of the flange head bolt. Flange head Class 10.9 is better.
Grade 8 is SAE designation for SAE bolts so any grade 8 bolt you find won't fit.
The OEM part number is 6504071.

Thanks, the next problem that I have is that I can't get a good enough grip on this thing with vice grips, i'm just sliding around on it. Any suggestions? Preferably ones that don't require me to go out and by something.

I was going mad with the same thing. Had a buddy bring up his pair of Vise Grips, and they clamped right on! lol. One thing you could try is to grind/cut the remainder of the bolt on opposing sides and make a flat piece that you can grab on and turn out.

Well it's out.
Things we did:
1. Soaked her overnight in WD-40
2. Tried to twist it out with vice grips, couldn't get enough grip
3. ground two flat surfaces onto the bolt and tried to twist it off with vice grips, again, not enough grip.
4. Heated it up with a torch and tried to break it free with vice grips, didn't work
5. drilled it out and tried to twist it out with vice grips, broke the bolt in half
6. drilled it out with a bigger bit and ruined the threads in the hole, worked it with a pair of needlenose till it finalle came out.
And we ground off the collar and put a replacement bolt in.
