engine problems

i have a 1990 xj laredo .my jeep is runing funny when i go 15-60mph it revse high and it feels like it has no power.i changed my trans fluid and filter about three weeks ago and the magnets were clean.its like when i take off it has to stay reved up high for it to go .but if i stomp on it it goes .this only happens in drive.and its not somthing that gradually started happening .it just started this morning.:dunno: i just cleaned the throttle body and its still doing it and i found a cracked vacum hose i fixed that to but it still keeps doing the same thing.

What trans fluid? What is the fluid level?

DagBMX 03-31-2010 09:42 AM

is it automatic or manual trans? any other symptoms you may have noticed?

dyte2004 03-31-2010 11:11 AM

is it shifting gears or is it stuck if first?

Check your TPS. It actually controls your transmission (no one said Jeep designers were smart). There are many write-ups. Try this one. http://billyxj.tripod.com/SENSORS1/index.html

Sounds like your Throttle Position Sensor. Make sure you always disconnect the negative battery cable before working on your baby. It senses how easy your pressing on the pedal and shifts accordingly. When you floor it, it senses it and down shifts On easy acceleration it shifts up for cruising. My jeep wouldnt start one day and I started messing with wires. I unplugged the TPS and plugged it back in checking the terminals. When it started back up it wouldnt shift without flooring it rpms reaching 4500. After the new TPS it started shifting normal.
