Default How's my spark plug look?

I finally got around to getting under the hood of the jeep for the first time. It is amazing how simple everything is. After working on BMWs for years this is like a dream come true.

That being said, I am not the best at reading spark plugs. I am waiting on a check valve for the fuel line since i have that dreaded hard start issue, but i decided to do some other basics for now until I get the valve.

So, tell me, is she running healthy?

EDIT: No idea how many miles on the plugs, but theres 172k on the odo. Should I go ahead and replace the plugs?

No problem. If you are coming from a BMW working on a Cherokee will be a walk in the park. Good luck.

I guess I'm weird like that. I love a solid and reliable drive/powertrain as well as an easy vehicle to work on and find cheap parts for (hence my history with 4.0's and 4.3's) but I still have a soft spot for classic bimmers (as seen in my sig)

My next whip will be another project e30. They're just so frikkin cool.

Im a big fan of E30's. I had two E36's that I loved but they got to be too much of a pain in the ***. It was a toss up between an E30 and this Cherokee, but i decided to go with the cherokee because parts are ridiculously easy to find and I needed something to haul boxes of ammo and firearms.

Anyway, I did the plugs and some other minor stuff, now the idle is a little goofy. Think I may need to gap the plugs. Thats never something I had to do with the BMW's. Either that or I just got junk plugs. Got Autolite AP985's.

yeah I would change them. I actually do my plugs twice a year when I do an oil change. my jeep seems to run much better like that.

I was referring to a member: BimmerJeeper. Don't worry about it--you're better off not knowing.

The 4.0 also runs best with Champion spark plugs. Just a heads up.

champions?! those things are good for lawnmowers. I actually stopped using cheap plugs 8 years ago. for the past 8 years I've been using bosch platinum 2's,but they apparently are phasing those out. you can still find them at Walmart. I found using plugs like that to be better, pricey but better. im probably gonna start using the new eco plugs soon. still have a few months before I summer-ize my girl. since I put them in my fuel economy went up quite a bit, plus I now use moble 0 weight oil. my 4.0 started with 16 city miles and went up to around 20. big difference. if your in a colder region.you may not want 0 weight. by all means im not telling anyone what to do,just giving an alterative suggestion. with wacky gas prices, its always good to save money. whatever you do DO NOT use autolites. they make everything run like crap, even mowers.
