Belt dressing to increase the friction betweent the belt and alternator wheel. Shouldn't be siezing though... alternators shouldn't really do that.

good luck either the bearings are seized or rust has developped between the rotor and stator and you have a vise effect. 2 options open it up and fix it or change it

If you can't spin it by hand, 100% chance of shredding the belt. Sorry, bone yard or parts store.

take the alt apart, clean it thoroughly, put it back together, and see if it frees up. If not, time for either a new one or JY

If I understand what you are saying is that the alt spins with no belt but locks with a belt. If that is the case the bearings are bad. You will spend more to repair it than to purchase one. I bought a used one today for $50 at the local junkyard. Don't waste your time trying to repair that one.

Wrecking yard, if it is seized then it is trashed, if you get it to spin it will seize again, burning up belts in the process.

if it's seizing up, you really in all hard truth have two options, replacement or rebuild, so I also agree with the other posts, rebuilding alts is pretty much becoming obsolete due to skills needed, and part cost. It really is cheaper more often than not to replace, and in your particular situation a jy or cl hunt would be your absolute easiest and cheapest option.

Grab the pully, attempt to move it from side to side, then try thrusting it (pulling it in and out). If there is any slop then you are just wasting your time. As someone said, if you can spin it without the belt but it locks up with belt tension then the bearings a fubar.

BTW, I don't understand the logic, if the thing isn't worth the investment of an alternator, used or new then why are we even talking about it? You can probably sell it if you don't want to fix it.
