Default How do I remove the dash in 96 xj?

I have a 96 xj. I want to check the water temp gauge for a loose connection. I've never taken the dash off, and I don't want to break any silly plastic tabs they like hiding in bad places on cars. Are there any screws to take out, or does it just pop off?

What works best?

Look at it and you'll be able to see where the screws are, and when you start tugging at it you'll find the ones you missed. It should come off pretty easy, the only hard part when I took mine off was getting it past the steering wheel. There are tabs that go into it, but if they come with it you can just push them back in.

Trying to do the same thing. But like others I can't get passed the steering wheel! I have the tilt down and everything. The black piece is completely free floating, but i just don't want to break it

Mine I just had to force it around. I thought it would snap in half but it didn't. Others take the cover off the steering wheel but I think that requires a weird bit or something, its been a while since I've had to do that.
