How to remove cooler line from transmission?
Hi all,
2000 XJ 4.0, auto
This is a stupid question, but I've searched and searched and only found threads on how to remove the trans cooler lines from the radiator. Couldn't care less about that. I need to know how to remove them from the transmission itself.
The piece holding the lines in looks like this:
Do I need to squeeze the plastic tabs or pull them apart? I have a replacement connector just in case, but I'd still like to get it out in one piece.

Use the same 3/8 quick-disconnect tool as you would for the lower line at the radiator. I replaced my lines last month and found it easiest to remove the fitting itself from the transmission (use 7/8" wrench), and then removed that clip using the disconnect tool.
Are you replacing the lines, or just the fittings?

I'll try your method of removing the line/fitting together and then using the quick disconnect tool to get the fitting off. Thanks!

Just squeeze those two white tabs together and pull the tube out. No tool required.
You may have to squirt some penetrating oil in the fitting if it's been there for a long time.

The following diagram seems fitting for this thread. AW4 cooler line routing, flow direction and part numbers. Thanks to CCKen for diagram.

FYI I believe the part numbers for the transmission lines that connect to the case are switched in this diagram. As the the high pressure line outlet line, which is in the front oft tranny case should be 624355 and the return line should be 6243554. Both the dorman site and amazon match numbers I have listed. I have been using this post to replace a high pressure leak in my jeep, and I was very confused until I noticed the mistake. The pros and cons of dyslexia . Will post again after I order it and try to replace it
