Default How much fender trimming 2" lift 31" tires?

Still trying to figure out if I want to go 3" lift of 2"... 2" is obviously cheaper, and funds for the project Jeep are limited. I have 31" tires I just got a great deal on some new GY MT/R tires so I bought them.

How much trimming will I need to do if I only go with a 2" lift? 3" lifts will fit the budget, but only with AAL. I suppose I could go with an AAL and when it sags get a full rear spring setup. 2" lift uses shackle and stock rear spring...

Oh such tough decisions!

Cut and fold in the rear and cut as much as you're comfortable with up front and bumpstop for the rest. 2" and 31's shouldn't need too much trimming and will work well for you. The only other thing that you might run into is rubbing on the LCA's while turning. Unless you have aftermarket wheels with less backspacing. Steering stops can be adjusted as well though.

I have that same set up. For the rear I made slices up into the fender, just past the holes from your fender flare. From there I used a rubber mallet and bent them up. For a nice finish I put a 80 grit flap disk on my angle grinder and cleaned it. For the front I simple cut out about an inch to an inch 1/2. Its raining so I'll try to get some pics up later. But I'm sure others will have on hand.

If I go 3" lift, no fender trimming... although it will probably mean a harsher ride + a new spring pack next year... still gotta decide but right now I am leaning on 3" lift w/ AAL and getting new rear springs next year.

You'll probably want to trim your fenders regardless. How flat are the leafs that are in it now? If they're not sagging too bad, an aal should last you until you can afford a full pack. I've been running mine for almost a year now and its not sagging too bad at all. I had a half decent stock pack though

Found them on clearance at a local place. New for $75 each. :-)

Gotta get some rims to install them on, found a set of XJ aluminum wheels on CL for $60, but they are only 7" wide so I'm still thinking about it. My XJ (that I have owned for less than a week now) has 3 matching rims and 3 more that are each different... Came with two spares but none match.

I also just found a local Pick N Pull junkyard close by, have one XJ in the yard. I didn't think to look at the rear leafs, but I am sure I can get a set of Dakota or S10 leaves there for cheap. Between the AAL/my springs/another spring pack I can get a good setup- all without breaking the bank. I am also now seriously considering doing the F150/WJ springs up front, custom spring pack in back from Dakota/S10 and seeing what sort of lift I can get for seriously cheap. Shocks will be the only expensive thing...
