ECU. I know it's not really a computer but discrete electronics but that's not really important. I'm just wondering if it's likely fail ever. Should I start carrying a spare. Concerned a failure might strand me and no matter what repair skill somebody might have will not matter.

They are very reliable. Somewhere I even saw "aircraft grade". There might be 6 "power transistors?" for the injectors. Seen posted once one went out. Was in some remote Baltic country, the guy found and repaired it! I carry a U-Joint, a CPS, and a "Bottle" cap, is all.

I had an '87 that went out-at least that is what the mechanic told me. I would be driving and it would just die. Didn't matter what speed or outside temperature. If I remember correctly (can't be certain) not even the accessories would work. I would wait somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes and it would start back up. The mechanic replaced it and the problem went away. This was about 15 years ago and I have since sold it.

ECU has nothing to do with accessories so I'm guessing you got screwed.

I have some if you need one. But very unlikely to fail.

LOL--figures. ...I really can't remember if the accessories worked or not. I'm thinking they didn't, but it was 2001 or 2002 and my memory isn't that great.

it's always good when your driving home from work, dead of winter, 14 degrees, it's dark outside, and it dies. Doesn't take long to start getting cold.

Thanks for the replies. I'm turning 50 very soon and I'm on a new thing where I need to feel self sufficient. Even though I might be the leader of some adventure I've never done anything alone so now I've been putting myself in very remote locations with just me and my Jeep. It runs great, knock on wood, but just want to do everything I can to avoid walking for 20 hours or something.

I have one 89 to 90 factory reman ECU. Heard the engine run in the Jeep it came out of.

The rest are mostly 87s that I upgraded. They'd be great for spares though.

I'll send you a message later tonight, I have a spare 87 and the Mopar module.
