Default Jeep won't run!! Got it stuck in deep mud..

Okay went wheeling today and I attempted a mud hole I went in and it got stuck. Water came to top of fender and it sat for 20 minutes before getting pulled out. My snorkel kept water out so no hydro lock we pulled the plugs to make sure of that. Cleaned out distributor and took air hose to relays fuse box and anything else electrical. Jeep will sometimes crank and run but revs at 2200 rpm it will sputter some and act like its about to shut off then RPMs will jump back up off and on a few times then will just cut off completly. I know the sitting for to long caused this I had water up to my knees almost inside the cab. Any ideas suggestions to why it won't run correctly and stay running? Thanks for the help.

The "throttle position sensor" HATES water. If they get even a little bit wet, they can act up.

Also remove connectors to the 5 volt sensors, spray them with electrical contact cleaner, add a small dab of dielectric grease and reconnect.

Was the engine off when you were sitting for 20 minutes?
water can still get up in the exhaust

Change all your fluids if you haven't already

This. Even if it isn't hydrolocked if you have an oil leak (which since you drive an XJ you probably do) then it could be filled with water.

Yes the engine was off. I unbolted exhaust because mud and sand clogged my muffler. I also took tps sensor off to make sure it was dry. The ECU barely Touched water it was high enough to clear maybe 95% of the water however that 5% might be the devil..

Where are the 5 volt sensors located?

A bad idle air control valve can cause similar symptoms to what you have. My buddy drove through a big mud puddle and his blew out.

That's funny you said that I just pulled mine off it was tricky to get to but the sensor part that goes in the housing by the Trans is dirty and has sand in it and mud dried up on the little tip of it so I'm gonna clean that off and put it back on and see what happens.

Is the idle air valve one of the sensors that goes in the throttle body?

Now the jeep is not getting spark. I cleaned the CPS sensor and no luck. It tries to turnover but will not fire. Yesterday it would fire and run like I stated in first post and now nothing at all...
