how to id a 27 vs 29 spline 8.25 ?

Any way to id if a 8.25 is a 27 or 29 spline besides pulling axle?

91-96 is 27 spline. 97-01 is 29 spline. If its all original and no one has swapped the rear ends out.

this^ but you can swap axle shafts and spider gears from a 97-01 into your 91-96 for the 29 splines shafts!

I was wondering about how to id them when they arent in the vehicle. I found a pile of them the other day at JY and they wont let you start pulling axle shafts to ck spline #'s.
