Remove spark plug, and either hand crank it with a breaker bar/socket, or remove the fuel pump relay and crank it til you see the top of the piston. Either way will work.

If you have a 4.0 engine it`s not hard..Basically there is a mark on the crank pulley and above the pulley there are numbered notches on a small plate...Place the vehicle in Neutral and turn the crank shaft pulley with a socket and ratchet (It won`t be hard to turn)...When the mark on the pulley is lined up with the "0" on the little metal plate the rotor on your distributor should be pointing right at the location of the #1 spark plug wire terminal..If the rotor is off by 180 degrees you are at TDC on the exhaust stroke and you need to make one more complete turn of the crank pulley...I'm sure someone will have a link to a photo step-by-step guide for this

you can also depending on how hard it is to get to the number 1 cylinder sparkplug.. put a screwdriver down the hole and crank it till the screwdrivers the whole way up

Yes but it can be at the top on both the intake and exhaust stroke so you`d still need to see where the rotor is pointing

I got it guys we removed the plugs and belt and just turned the crank w/ a ratchet and lined it up w/ 0 worked great.

I needed to get it at TDC cause i have to install the oil pump driveshaft with the camshaft postion sensor on top
