How to find out if a Trac Lock is installed?
Hello.
A friend bought a used XJ some days ago.
I told him that he has a Track loc (all European XJs came with a TL) but he found out that his XJ is an imported US model.
Did all US XJs have a TL?
How can he find out if he has a TL?
Thanks in advance for your help.

no they didnt all have one, mine doesnt. but put the rear up on a jack and turn one wheel, see if the other wheel turns the opposite direction, if so its an open diff, i.e. no track lock

Also there was orignally a tag attached to the diff housing stating that it was a LSD axle.
Mine had the bright orange sticker on the inside of the glove box door... Couldnt miss it.

I think it is a different carrier than an open diff. Never seen the inside of one but they are different part numbers IIRC.

It would be the same process as changing the R&P...
Because it is a different carrier....
Ask and Ye shall recieve brother Blue.....
On the left is an open carrier...
On the right a Trac-loc carrier.
The side gears, spiders and cross shaft are gone from the open carrier. The side gears are still in the Trac-loc one.

Thanks whowey, I have seen the insides of plenty of open carriers but that is the 1st "Trac-Loc" insides I have seen. Thanks again! I knew that they were different but now I have seen.
